More Materials / Tool Guides
Not a listicle. What each one is for, its real features, and one worked example tying it back to the book.
Chapter 9's rule still applies here: buy or upgrade into a tool to solve a bottleneck you’ve already personally felt, not one this page told you that you might have. These five come up constantly across the workflow the book teaches, so they’re worth knowing well before you decide whether you need them.
Prospecting & Enrichment
A contact database and outreach platform in one: find people at target accounts, verify how to reach them, and run sequences without leaving the tool.
Worked example: Build a saved search matching your ICP's positive signals, then reveal contacts only for the 15 accounts you're actually messaging this week. Chapter 2's warning holds here specifically: a giant list of revealed-but-unused contacts is the most common way beginners burn through credits for nothing.
CRM / System of Record
The single source of truth for contacts, deals, and pipeline stages. The free tier is a genuinely usable product, not a crippled trial.
Worked example: Set up your one free pipeline using Chapter 8's discipline: define entry evidence, exit evidence, and an expected next step for every stage, instead of generic activity labels like "contacted" or "demo sent."
Social Prospecting & Signals
Free LinkedIn already covers search, connections, and messaging with a note. Sales Navigator adds the filtering and alerting layer once you've felt free LinkedIn's limits.
Worked example: Save your ICP as a Sales Navigator search and let job-change alerts do the timing-signal work Chapter 2 describes manually — a new hire in a relevant role is exactly the kind of signal the chapter says to connect to a problem hypothesis, not just note in passing.
Cold Email Sending & Deliverability
The technical plumbing behind Chapter 3: domain warm-up, sending pace, and multi-inbox rotation, handled automatically once your message is already proven.
Worked example: This is exactly the platform Chapter 3 says to earn, not start with: prove your message manually at low volume on a warmed domain first, then use Instantly to automate the pacing and rotation on something that's already working.
Programmable Enrichment
A way to chain multiple data providers together so if one can't find a contact, the next one automatically tries. This is the literal definition of "waterfall enrichment" from Chapter 2's glossary.
Worked example: Build a Clay table scoped to exactly the accounts on this week's outreach list, not a speculative list "just in case." The waterfall only runs, and only costs credits, for accounts you're actually about to contact.
| Tool | Core use | Free tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apollo | Find & reach contacts | Limited free credits | Building and enriching an account list from scratch |
| HubSpot | Track pipeline & deals | Yes, genuinely usable | The one place everything about a deal lives |
| LinkedIn Sales Navigator | Social search & signals | No (upgrade from free LinkedIn) | Timing signals and warm paths into an account |
| Instantly | Send & warm up cold email | No | Scaling a message that's already proven manually |
| Clay | Chain enrichment providers | Limited free credits | Higher match rates than any single data source |
